JOY

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. With one word from God, He called into existence things from the void. Science calls it the Big Bang, we call it the voice of God. He said "Let it be" and things came into existence. Creation was done and the universe was formed. Then God created man in his own likeness and image to populate this earth. The purpose of man's creation was to enjoy the fellowship with God.

But man fell to sin and fell short of the Glory of God. A deep divide was formed between God and man. Man lost all the privileges he had with God. Sin and curse enslaved mankind. Throughout the old testament, God sent prophets and leaders for his children, but man always fell short of the expectations of God. What could save man? What could help man get over the chasm to God?

On a cool evening over 2000 years ago, there appeared three things like never seen before.

 - First, there was a star. This was no ordinary star. A star so bright and shining that the wise men knew something was up. A star beyond what was seen before. A star that announced that a king was born. The star led the wise men to Bethlehem that night. That star was symbolic of God shining a new light in this dark and dreary world.

  - Second, there was a new song. This was no ordinary folk or lore song. This was a new song. There was a multitude of angels seen on high, singing and praising God. "Glory to God in the highest. And on earth peace, goodwill toward men." Hope returned to the earth, mankind had a possibility now. A song symbolic of the fellowship we could have with God again.

  - Third, Good News of Great Joy!! This was no ordinary news. The Angel stood and told the shepherds - "I bring you good tidings of Great Joy. A child was born, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." "You shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21). Jesus, the Son of God was born that day on this earth. The star, the song, the gifts, the kneeling, the joy, the hope, the excitement—all were because of Him. Jesus is the Good News of Great Joy.

Hallelujah! God gave his only begotten Son to this earth to save mankind. So whosoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. This is not a religion, this is not a philosophy, this is not an intellectual thought. This is reality. Brothers and Sisters, God loves you. God gave his Son to die for you. That is the greatest gift. This is the reason we celebrate, unto us a savior was born. He came on this earth and he died for all of mankind. We have been reconciled with God. We have fellowship with God. Through Jesus, we are now children of God.

If there is anyone reading this passage who hasn't received that great joy in your heart, there is a simple solution. This is not complicated or ritualistic. Pray this simple prayer - "Jesus, I believe you came to this earth to die for me. I believe you died and you rose again. Forgive my sins. Cover me with your blood. Jesus, you are the Lord and Savior of my life. Thank you for making me your child. I thank you Lord, In Jesus Name, Amen."
